{"id":217,"date":"2010-05-01T07:27:47","date_gmt":"2010-05-01T11:27:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mymontys.com\/wordpress\/?p=217"},"modified":"2010-05-01T23:18:19","modified_gmt":"2010-05-02T03:18:19","slug":"more-uses-for-grass-clippings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wordpress.mymontys.com\/?p=217","title":{"rendered":"More Uses for Grass Clippings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Short entry today.\u00a0 Storms are moving in this evening and I have a lot of work to do.\u00a0 Weather man says we are expecting 4+ inches of rain.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll see.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, mowing season is in full swing and I have found another use <a href=\"http:\/\/mymontys.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/IMG_8039.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-218\" title=\"IMG_8039\" src=\"http:\/\/mymontys.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/IMG_8039-190x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"190\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wordpress.mymontys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/IMG_8039-190x300.jpg 190w, https:\/\/www.wordpress.mymontys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/IMG_8039.jpg 288w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 190px) 100vw, 190px\" \/><\/a>for grass clippings.\u00a0 My son and I are using them to create paths so we can walk through our garden, even after a rain, without bogging down in this god-forsaken E. Tennessee clay.\u00a0 Additionally we are using it around the tomatoes to help suppress weeds.<\/p>\n<p>One word of caution that I learned the hard way last season.\u00a0 DO NOT try this if you have a Bermuda grass\u00a0lawn and your grass has formed seed heads.\u00a0 The seeds will germinate and you will spend the rest of the summer fighting to keep Bermuda grass out of your garden.<\/p>\n<p>The benefit of using the grass clippings like this is that it does give us the paths and the weed barriers that\u00a0I am looking for with the added benefits that\u00a0I can till it in in the fall to add organic structure into the soil, plus unlike using bark mulch, which is expensive and semi-permanent, I can reconfigure the layout of my garden each season so that I can easily rotate my crops to keep disease and insects in check.<\/p>\n<p>Happy gardening.\u00a0 I&#8217;m back to work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"facebook\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share.php?u=https:\/\/www.wordpress.mymontys.com\/?p=217\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wordpress.mymontys.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/add-to-facebook-plugin\/facebook_share_icon.gif\" alt=\"Share on Facebook\" title=\"Share on Facebook\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share.php?u=https:\/\/www.wordpress.mymontys.com\/?p=217\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Share on Facebook\">Share on Facebook<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Short entry today.\u00a0 Storms are moving in this evening and I have a lot of work to do.\u00a0 Weather man says we are expecting 4+ inches of rain.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll see.
